Gainesboro Bicentennial Park new playground and pavilion should be publicly available by December.
Chamber of Commerce President Jordan Hunter said concrete pouring for the about 600 square foot pavilion begins next week with landscaping for the playground following shortly after.
“He will be coming the 19th of this month, so next Monday, to start the concrete,” Hunter said. “Once he gets done with that, they will have to have time for the concrete to cure, so probably the following week they are planning on coming up and putting up the pavilion.”
Hunter said the steel pavilion will have picnic tables and new signage recognizing the area. Cameras will also be installed for safety.
“The old gazebo that was up there was probably an eight by eight gazebo with seating for about six,” Hunter said. “This pavilion we are getting is a $60,000 pavilion. It is 22 by 30.”
The upgrades are a part of a three year Project Diabetes Grant. Construction for the fitness center portion of the project will begin next year. Hunter said the town is excited to see the final project.
“Once it is done, hopefully we will have decent weather for kids to enjoy it this year,” Hunter said. “But definitely come next spring, I think they will be very pleased with the park and enjoy it to the fullest.”
The entire project has an estimated completion of July 2022.
