Gainesboro Board of Alderman approved moving forward to apply for another Community and Development Block Grant.
Engineer Nathaniel Green said the funding is allowed to be used for water and or sewer improvements. He said if awarded, this would be the second CDBG grant to go towards sewer improvements in Gainesboro to continue addressing needed upgrades, particularly with the city’s overfall.
“We were able to get it cleaned out in some of our televising work before but its placement and where it is in the middle of the road, the line that comes from the treatment plant is a newer line that was put in about 15 years ago,” Green said. “But just this last portion is kind of the last stretch that they need to complete.”
Green said an early estimate of fixing the overfall line from the 1950s plus additional upgrades could cost some $700,000 and take about a year and a half to complete. He said if awarded, the grant funding would cover some $630,000 of the work with a $70,000 match from the city.
Green said the application deadline is in April.
In other business, the aldermen appointed Travis Agee to fill the open seat left vacant by the resignation of Eric Bartholomew last month.
Agee was one of two candidates interviewed by the aldermen to fill the position. Agee said this is his second term on the board.
