Gainesboro Approves Plan For Future Roadway And Mobility Improvements

The Gainesboro Board of Aldermen has adopted two comprehensive plans with the goal to improve roadways and community mobility.

Mayor Lloyd Williams said by passing a strategy for future improvements, it increases the city’s chances of obtaining grant funding.

“Points out where we need crosswalks at, parking, sidewalks, ADA sidewalks,” Williams said. “We can’t apply this year, but next year, we can apply. Mark Dudney is looking for grants that we can apply for.”

Dudney is the Dale Hollow RPO Coordinator with UCDD. Williams said he helped Gainesboro find the first grants to conduct the initial studies that resulted in the two plans.

“Instead of just applying for a grant, this says we do need it,” Williams said. “We got the studies done and this is kind of what need. This will help you with future grants.”

Williams said the study found parking was needed in almost all areas downtown. Williams said the town also has a need for sidewalk connectivity for pedestrians.  Williams said if the funding is found, Gainesboro would have walkways leading to Roaring River Park.
