Gainesboro Aldermen Approve New Pay Scale And Bonuses

The Gaineseboro Board of Aldermen approved a new pay scale for employees Thursday.

Aldermen Travis Agee said employees will be rewarded for longevity while also increasing starting pay for new hires.

“We’re trying to get our employees competitive with surrounding municipalities,” Agee said. “We’ve been low for a while, and we knew that. We’ve got to take care of who we got, because you can’t find employees right now.”

The board raised starting pay to $13 an hour for new hires, a $1.50 increase. Bonuses will also be on the way as full-time employees will receive $1,500 and $750 for part-time workers that qualify.

“A lot of our supervisors have been here for a long time,” Agee said. “We’ve got several employees that’s been here for 20 plus years and over those years, they might have had a dollar or two raise. I think they deserve more than that. I’m glad we could get it done.”

City Recorder Darla Pippen said the new pay scale will go into effect immediately. A total of 17 employees will benefit from the money.

In other business, the Board of Aldermen approved the second reading of ordinance for intoxicating liquors consumption. Agee said the ordinance combines two chapters in the charter regarding off and on premise consumption.

A $2,500 bid to clean the property at 208 South Main Street was also passed.
