A jumbotron could be on the way to the White County High School Gymnasium after a fundraiser initiative was approved by the school board Tuesday night.
Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the basketball teams want to pay for the expense through a sponsorship program.
“We’ve been talking about this idea for several years,” Dronebarger said. “The basketball team have been talking to sponsors about the possibility of buying the video board. In return, they would get ad space for the next several years.”
Dronebarger said the project would cost at least $50,000. Dronebarger said the purchase would need to go through a bid process if the sponsors are found.
‘They are looking for permission to go out and set up those deals with businesses they may want to advertise on those boards in a means of getting the money to actually pay for the board,” Dronebarger said.
Principal Greg Wilson said the setup would be similar to Warren County High School or Stone Memorial. School Board Member Jayson McDonald said he sees the purchase and the business partnership opportunity as a good investment.
“Those are phenomenal things that you can do loads and loads of things on,” McDonald said. “It is a big task and a lot of money, but I think with a business partnership would be a good thing for our school.”
