Friends Of Cordell Hull Groups Gets Non-Profit Designation

The newly-established Friends of the Cordell Hull group has officially achieved its non-profit designation.

Board Chair Natasha Deane said the goal of the group is to bring more recreation opportunities to the lake. Deane said hiking, fishing, and kayaking are all activities the group wants to bring through volunteering and fundraising and in partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers.

“That could allow the corps to help promote the lake in ways that often their hands are tied as a federal agency,” Deane said. “That the friends’ group could really help them out and make some things happen.”

For example, through the efforts of the Corps and the friends’ group, they were able to construct a brand new trail. She said while the Corps was active in the trail building, it was the friends’ group that came through with the community support to make it a reality.

“We think the time is right to raise awareness on these things,” Deane said. “I think people are hungry for some quiet and restoration, but this place offers that.”

Deane said now, there is a new three-mile trail from Wildwood Resort and Marina in Granville to the Indian Creek Campground.
