Fresh Food Aid Coming To Byrdstown Residents

Relief for anyone in need of food is coming to Byrdstown on Wednesday.

Forbus Circuit United Methodist Pastor John Dietz said local farmers are providing fresh food through COVID aid. Dietz said 450 boxes containing meat, dairy and produce will be available at the Byrdstown Activities Park Pavilion.

“We’re the ones that are truly blessed by this because it does your soul good,” Dietz said. “To know that you’re impacting the community, you’re feeding people not only physically but spiritually as well.”

Dietz said the only way to be guaranteed a food box is to call either (931) 879-5410 or (931) 260-9628. The distribution will be set up as a drive-thru and 50 boxes will be set aside for anyone who was able to make a reservation.

“Allow for a little buffer for those that found out a little late or just weren’t able to get through,” Dietz said.

Dietz said he found out about this program and what it offered through a pastor in Gainesboro. He said based on the last supply of food from farmers he expects a good haul for anyone who takes advantage of this opportunity.

“That pallet back in November had a gallon of milk, about a quart size container of yogurt,” Dietz said. “It had a five pound package of precooked frozen chicken, a five pound package of shredded pork. It had a five pound block of sliced cheese, excellent cheese, it had apples and potatoes and onions.”

The Byrdstown Activities Park Pavillion is located across from Town Hall. There will be no requirements to verify income to qualify for a food box.
