Free Sesquicentennial Masks Available At Celina Chamber

Clay County residents can pick up a free sesquicentennial mask at the Celina Chamber of Commerce during business hours.

The mask distribution began Monday thanks to the Cares Act. Director Doug Young said the masks are meant to celebrate the county’s 150th year while promoting safety.

“We had planned lots of events, and the virus came along and knocked most of those events out of place,” Young said. “But, we decided to get some masks with the sesquicentennial logo on them.”

The white masks depict the county’s courthouse with the number 150. Young said two masks will be placed inside time capsules to be opened over 100 years from now. Masks are only available while supplies last.

“Next month, we will be storing away two time capsules. Artifacts from this year will be in both time capsules,” Young said. “One will be opened 50 years from now when the county is 200 years old, and the other one will be opened 100 years from now when the county is 250 years old.”
