Former Super Bowl Player From Sparta Dies Thursday

A Sparta resident who played in Super Bowl VI died Thursday.

70-year-old Dale Farley passed away at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Farley played outside linebacker for the Miami Dolphins during their 1972 Super Bowl VI appearance. The Dolphins drafted Farley in the third round of the 1971 NFL draft. He also played for the Buffalo Bills and CFL’s Toronto Argonauts.

The sparta native played college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Funeral services take place Monday at Cumberland Heights Church of Christ. Burial will follow in O’Connor Cemetery. The family will welcome friends Sunday, June 16 at 3 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.
