Food To The Rescue Replenishing Supplies After Winter Break Deliveries

Food to the Rescue beginning to replenish its supplies after spending the winter break delivering meals to needy kids in Putnam County.

Family Outreach Coordinator Robin Twitty said the non-profit delivers meals to food-insecure children when the school system goes on break. She said they serve 600 or 700 kids during any given break.

“A large number of children in our community only can eat at school and so when school is not in session, it can be unknown where their next meal will come from,” Twitty said. “So we  help provide food to kind of help offset some of the stress for parents.”

Twitty said volunteers deliver food six times a year, including fall break, winter break, spring break, and three times over the summer. She said right now they are in the process of reordering non-perishables to stock up before spring break deliveries begin.

Twitty said they rely on donations of both food and funding to help make their mission possible. She said if people are interested in aiding their efforts, they can call 931-510-0471.

“This is a process we go through after each distribution,” Twitty said. “We have a person who orders the food, that Meg Burr now. We normally order enough for each distribution so the food doesn’t sit in the warehouse and go bad. We try to get just enough for each one.”
