Food To The Rescue has extended the sponsor a child fundraiser, as they need additional help feeding local children.
Food To The Rescue Family Outreach Coordinator Robin Twitty said the non-profit that helps feed children dealing with food insecurity during school breaks. Twitty said people can donate $150 a year or $12.50 a month to supply six deliveries of food which covers a child for a whole year.
“There are so many kids that rely on school breakfast and school lunch in order to eat that day,” Twitty said. “We don’t want them to have to worry about how they are going to eat while they are on break.”
Twitty said the goal is to reach 1,300 sponsorships, and they are over halfway there. Twitty said the goal is to use the sponsors to not only serve children in Putnam and Overton County but also expand assistance to Jackson County.
“Right now we service Putnam County and Overton County,” Twitty said. “We are getting ready to add Jackson County. We are trying to get enough money raised to where we can start delivery there and we hope that in the future we can add even more counties.”
Twitty said food security is a big problem as one in five children are dealing with food security in the state of Tennessee Twitty said Food to the Rescue believes that no child should go hungry.
“All of the people that work with Food to the Rescue are all volunteers,” Twitty said. “We have no paid employees and our goal is just to make sure that the children in our community are fed and that they have food that they need.”
Twitty said the nonprofit feeds children from ages one to eighteen. Twitty said the plan is to keep the fundraiser open until 1,300 sponsors are fulfilled.
