Flooding Closes At Least 15 Roads In Cumberland County

Overnight heavy rains have flooded and closed at least 15 roads in Cumberland County.

Officials with the Cumberland County Highway Department said at least three roads in the Lake Tansi area could be closed for several days. Road Superintendent Scott Blaylock said those roads include Plantation Drive, Flathead Road, and Dunbar Road.

“We knew from monitoring it that we were going to have some rain, but we didn’t think it was going to be anything to this magnitude of a flash flood,” Blaylock said. “It’s a very big surprise to all of us.”

Blaylock encouraged drivers to be extra alert on roadways in the Lake Tansi area today.

“If you do come upon some barrels or barricades, do not go past them,” Blaylock said. “We’ve actually had to do some water rescues this morning from some vehicles that decided to go ahead and try it and didn’t make.”
