Flooding Causes Issues In Putnam County

Flood waters entered several businesses in Monterey early Wednesday morning and forced several roads to close across the county.

Putnam County EMA officials said at least 12 inches of water entered a business on Crossville Street in Monterey. Occupants of an adjacent apartment had to be evacuated with the assistance of the Monterey Police Department.

Bowman’s Auto Sales also flooded on Commercial Avenue with more than a foot of water reportedly entering that building.

At least one water rescue took place in Baxter Tuesday evening. A report from the Putnam County 911 center indicates that a swift water team responded to POW Road after two adult males were four wheeling and became trapped by rising water from a nearby creek. Swift water teams safely removed the trapped individuals. No injuries occurred.

Parts of Poplar Grove Road in Cookeville were closed Wednesday morning. The 911 report said the roadway was completely impassable because of flooding. Clemons Road at Cedar Creek Drive in Cookeville was also closed Tuesday night. That road has been reopened.

Crossville Street between Commercial and Burks school was closed in Monterey overnight, along with nearby Farley Avenue and Louis Avenue between North Chestnut and North Elm Street. Officials said those roads have also reopened.
