Floodwaters caused all but eight boat slips to break loose and float down stream at East Port Marina Wednesday night.
Owner Richard Devries said recovery efforts began Thursday morning.
“The insurance company already knows and I’ve got a team of professionals,” Devries said. “This is what they do. They put docks back together and find all the pieces. They’re on their way. We’ve also got 15 marinas on this lake, and they’re all like family and they’re all out there helping.”
Devries said he slept in his car Wednesday night and watched as large trees and debris began piling up around the 100 slips at the marina. He said the current eventually caused the docks to break loose and float towards Sunset Marina.
“13 years having a marina and the water has never come up this fast,” Devries said. “We came close to losing everything. We’re lucky because right now the gas docks are damaged, but they’re still here. The restaurant is still here and one house boat is still here.”
Devries said said he and his wife will begin contacting slip owners on Thursday. In the meantime, he’s asking folks to remain patient as he works to assess the damage.
