First Celina Meeting With New Officials Tuesday

Celina’s new mayor will preside over his first board of mayor and aldermen meeting Tuesday.

Mayor Joey Rich said he’s never held office before.

“My dad was mayor back in the early 80s and I guess it just, I kinda got the bug for it and decided to try my hand at it,” Rich said.

Rich said he’s looking forward to applying for more grants to do improvements around the city. Rich said he’s particularly excited about an ongoing project to build a sidewalk in town.

“It’ll be a 5-foot -ide sidewalk, really going to improve the looks of the area, we have a lot of people that walk here in Celina, store to store, it’ll be really good for the community,” Rich said.

The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Celina’s city hall.

Rich was sworn in June 30 after winning the seat in the June 7 city election. Voters also re-elected incumbents Donald Haston and Buddy Thompson to serve on the towns Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Clay County Democratic Party Chairman Tonya Spears was also elected to serve on the board as well.
