Fiesta Cancun Pays $271k In Owed Wages, Fines After DOL Investigation

Fiesta Cancun of Cookeville has paid over $271,000 in fines and owed wages following a federal investigation.

The United States Department of Labor (DOL) made the announcement via press release Thursday.

According to the release, Fiesta Cancun violated minimum wage requirements by failing to pay servers for the hours they worked.

Fiesta Cancun also failed to pay required overtime to cooks, bussers, and servers who worked over 40 hours.

Investigators determined the restaurant violated federal child labor laws by hiring a 15-year-old employee who worked 40 hours a week.

Investigators also found the restaurant violated child labor laws by allowing the teen to use a convection oven and cook with hot grease.

Fiesta Cancun also paid a civil penalty of over $1,451 for the child labor violations.
