Fentress County has sent out the building specifications for bids on the future 4-H Agriculture Pavilion.
The building will be located on Highway 127 near East Fork Stables. County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the plan is to offer 4-H education classes and competitions.
“We are one of the top five in the state in background in cattle, so we have a lot of interest in that here,” Johnson said. And then we have our Cattlemen’s Association here. We could even hopefully, work when we get it all set up and such to maybe even have sales.”
Johnson said the building will include the county’s UT-Agriculture Extension offices, a community room and covered arena. Johnson said the goal is to host all levels of 4-H shows.
“It’s going to be mindset around the young students that are in those judging teams if possibly we can get some here,” Johnson said. “It will be a big enough piece of property that we can actually have your soil testing competitions, judging and such if they come this far. Hopefully that there it will draw those students, those clubs here to participate.”
Johnson said there is still available room to grow in this location and adjoining acreage that could be purchased in the future. The county purchased 15 acres for $15,000 an acre for the 4-H Agriculture Pavilion.
He said the next steps will be starting on the building project after bids are opened in two weeks.
