Fentress Soccer Urgently Needs Coaches To Avoid Cancelation

The Fentress County Soccer Club urgently needs at least two more volunteer coaches to avoid canceling its spring season.

Executive Director Brandon Wentworth said spring registration was scheduled for February 1, but it will not open until enough coaches are in place. He said the recreational league is designed to make a coach’s job as easy as possible through the eight-week season.

“It’s really important,” Wentworth said. “We want to be able to continue to serve these kids in the community and provide them a program. It’s very family-focused. It’s very community-driven, so having that available to the parents and kids in this county is super important.”

He said the league usually serves kids from four to 12 years old. He said this year, the league has already had to cancel the 12-year-old season because that age group requires a seasoned coach. He said those interested in coaching can reach out via the Fentress County Soccer Club Facebook and website.

“We just need a few more coaches and a few more team assistants to make sure we can deliver a season that the parents expect, and one that we can be proud of, and one that’s going to cater to the amount of kids that we typically have each season,” Wentworth said.

He said the league prepares kids to move into more challenging, competitive leagues when they reach middle and high school. While playing for the club, growth and skill development are the focus rather than heated competition. He said coaches use an app that maps out practice plans for them, so all they need is a basic knowledge of soccer.

“The entire focus of the organization is to provide a fun learning environment in a soccer program that helps support the entirety of the Fentress County community,” Wentworth said.

Wentworth said the season starts on March 11, so there will be another month to gather additional assistants if they can find enough coaches to get registration open.
