Fentress Gets New Vehicle Registration Kiosk

Fentress County received a new self-service vehicle registration kiosk to replace the one located at the county courthouse.

County Clerk Amanda Hicks said the new kiosk has a larger screen, can be operated by keypad or touchscreen, and takes more payment options. Hicks said the kiosk is also more efficient and user-friendly overall.

“In Fentress County, the closest DMV is Cookeville or Crossville, so for us that’s at least a thirty or forty-five minute drive to a driver center here in Fentress County,” Hicks said. “So it helps everyone, especially our elderly that don’t make it out of town a lot. They can come here and we assist them with their renewals.”

Hicks said the kiosk is provided through a state partnership so the only cost for the county is the energy required to power the kiosk. Hicks said the county received the kiosk in December and she has already noticed less failures with it than with the last one.

“Everyone in the state that had a kiosk prior, everyone received, it was a roll out across the whole state,” Hicks said. “So it wasn’t just my office.”

Hicks said the agreement for the kiosk lasts for one year and will continue as long as neither party terminates it. Hicks said the hopes the partnership will last many, many years.

“It’s kind of a continual contract,” Hicks said. “So I’m assuming the reason we did the new contract is because we got the new kiosk.”
