Fentress Fair Named 2018 Champion

The Tennessee Fair Association has named Fentress County the Division A State Champion for the 2018 fair season.

Cindy Smith is the secretary treasurer for the Fentress County Agricultural Fair. She said the honor means the county will compete for the Champion of Champions award this year.

“We were Champion of Champions in 2015 and in 2007. You have to be a champion fair before you can compete for that,” Smith said. “We’ve been champion fairs probably eight or nine times through the years and I think we’ve had a champions award maybe three times. We really want to get that so we hope to have a great fair this season.”

Smith said the Fentress County Fair has been fortunate to have increased attendance and several facility improvements take place.

“Our numbers were up in exhibits this year and a number of our livestock shows were up this year,” Smith said. “We were able to do a lot of improvements to our grounds. One of the big things we did was put a new roof on the grandstands and add some new signage.”

Smith said more than 40,000 people attended the fair in 2018.

“This was a huge endeavor for us and we are always excited to do this,” Smith said. “We attribute the success of the fair to all of our volunteers and the people in the county.

The Warren County Fair won the 2019 Champion of Champions fair.

Fentress County, Dickson County, Sevier County will compete for the award in 2020.
