Fentress Elementary School Suffers Wind Damage, Multiple Counties Report Downed Trees

Fentress County Schools dismissed Pine Haven Elementary students early this morning following wind damage to facilities.

EMA Director James Bilbrey said three HVAC units on the roof of the school were displaced from wind. A portable classroom behind the school also suffered wind damage.

Bilbrey said Billy Ridge Road had some downed trees across the road, but the debris has been cleared. According to Bilbrey, there are no initial reports of a funnel cloud, but EMA is working with the National Weather Service to determine the severity of the storm.

Bilbrey said no students were injured. As for the remainder of the county, Bilbrey said there was minimum damage.

Clay County EMA reports multiple downed trees but have since been cleared. EMA Director Kyle Haney said storm damage was mostly in the east portions of the county. Haney said Willow Grove lost power for a few hours, but it is now restored.

Overton County and Pickett County are back up and running after Monday morning’s power outages.

EMA Director Chris Massiongale said that there were some reports of barn roof damage in Overton County. Massiongale said that there were some downed trees and excessive winds in both counties. He said that the trees have been picked up and roadways cleared.
