Fentress County Investigator Graduates From TBI State Academy

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations celebrated the graduation of 24 officers from their State Academy.

Representing the Fentress County Sheriff’s Department, Chief Investigator Jerry Mifflin said that he wanted to take part in the academy to enhance his ability to protect the Fentress community.

“It was an intense training,” Mifflin said. “It was packed with several tools and training scenarios that we could do, that we could learn, and take back to our department and teach other people.”

The program is modeled after the FBI’s National Academy and includes specialized training in leadership, constitutional law, communications intelligence, and crime scene and undercover investigation. Mifflin said that one of the hardest parts was the program’s intensity.

“It’s fast-paced,” It’s a lot of hours in four weeks. Being away from home and staying there wasn’t too bad, but it was pretty fast-paced.”

Mifflin said that the training will be beneficial to the folks of Fentress. He said he most looks forward to how this will help crime prevention.

“Being a small county, we don’t have the funds to go a lot of places like that and obtain a whole lot of training,” Mifflin said. “It means a lot that they put their faith in me to go to learn and to bring it back to our department and teach others.”
