Fentress County Grand Jury ruled the June shooting involving a Fentress County Deputy and Gregory Turnure as self defense.
Eighth District Attorney Jared Effler asked for the TBI to investigate the shooting. Effler said TBI agent Randall Woods presented the jury with the investigation.
“The results of that TBI investigation were presented to the Fentress County Grand Jury on August the 5th,” Effler said. “The Grand Jury issues a report that the officer’s actions were necessary and a last resort.”
Fentress County Deputies arrived to a Clarkrange home to find Turnure armed with a knife, hatchet and pipe. Turnure threatened to harm himself and others.
Turnure disobeyed deputies’ verbal commands and resisted a deployed taser. A deputy then opened fire after Turnure attempted to attack law enforcement. Turnure was pronounced dead at the scene.
