Fentress County Begins Search for Finance Director

Fentress County is now accepting applications for its finance director opening.

Fentress County Executive J. Michael Cross said he hopes the process goes smoothly so the finance department can move forward.

“We hope to be kind of expeditious with this and get it done fairly quickly,” Cross said. “We’re in the middle of a budget year, so we want to get one in place and get the stability back to the department.”

Interim Director Kellye Cooper was appointed to the position last week after the County Commission voted to dismiss former director Marsha Delk.

Delk was fired on the account of unapproved raises given to employees in 2015. Although the money was present in the budget at the time, Delk failed to officially bring the raises to the Finance Committee for final approval.

The initial investigation found Delk gave a total of nearly $41,000 in unapproved raises between 2015 and 2016.

The new director will oversee the operation of the Fentress County Finance Department. The window to apply for the position is open through Friday, July 6 at 4 p.m.
