The Fentress County community is coming together to support one another after two EF-1 tornadoes on Sunday.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the tornadoes were approximately 900 feet wide and traveled just over 10 miles. He said while there was significant property damage to homes, barns and garages, there were no injuries or fatalities.
“It’s amazing how people will come together when there’s a tragedy, you know you may not think people do that a lot of times but they do especially in our area and I know they do in other areas also,” Johnson said. “They just, they’re always wanting to lend people a helping hand. You know, taking lunch to people who are working.”
Johnson said crews are still working on cleaning up debris in the Allardt, Tinchtown, and Coon Hunting Lodge Road areas. He said Volunteer Energy and Twin Lakes are going through to clean up power lines and make sure all systems are back up and in working order.
Johnson said the roads are now all opened up. He said it is devastating to have events like this in your own community, but they are thankful people are okay.
“We don’t know how much damage that it has done monetary-wise,” Johnson said. “But luckily by the grace of God throughout all of this destruction, we had no fatalities or injuries. That’s the good thing to come out of this. You can always replace material goods, but you can’t replace lives or lots of injuries. So we’re lucky on that front.”
