Fentress Co. Animal Shelter In Need Of New Home

A Fentress County animal shelter is in need of a new home.

Best Friends Sanctuary has limited space and has received noise complaints at its Volunteer Drive location in Jamestown.

Shelter Volunteer Phyllis Ferrara said the board of education has offered the old Pine Haven School as a possible site for a new animal shelter, but funding is a concern because of the condition of the building.

“It’s in a sad state of repair, but the walls and floors are structurally sound, the facility has multiple acres and it’s in the county and not the city,” Ferrara said. “It would be ideal if we could just find a way to get it done.”

In order to repair the building Ferrara said it would take some “big-hearted” contractors willing to do the work for a reasonable price. She’s also hoping for more donations to the shelter and volunteers to get the work done.

Ferrara said most of the expensive work involves electrical and heating and cooling systems inside the building.

Attorneys for the schools board and animal shelter are currently working on an agreement to allow the animal shelter to use the facility.
