Fentress Approves Land Purchase For Clarkrange Center

Fentress County Commissioners approved a new site for a Clarkrange Convenience Center Monday night.

Commissioners agreed to purchase a sixth site, added to the list of five other sites under consideration Monday night. County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the half-acre lot will cost the county $20,000.

“Talked with T-DOT, so we have to have it completed by April the 7th,” Johnson said. “That right there will give us two months to get everything taken care of and satisfied.”

Johnson said the center, located on Old Highway 28, would be surrounded by state-owned land. It sits just 100 feet away from the Highway 127 expansion.

During the meeting, the commission approved Johnson to start preparations to open the project for bid.

Originally only five parcels were being considered, but Johnson introduced a new one. An amendment was passed to add the land to the proposal. That parcel was the one the county ended up purchasing.
