FEMA Updates Livingston On Hazard Mitigation Program

A FEMA review panel has requested more information on the Livingston homes that want to participate in the town’s hazard mitigation program.

A benefit cost analysis of each property will be required and reviewed before moving forward. Alderman Kelly Coleman said this gives Livingston a spring timeline to get the program operational.

“We’re hoping that by February we should have our program approved, and then at that point, we will begin negotiating with individual property owners,” Coleman said. “In general, I’m pleased.”

Livingston applied for the grant funding for the program some two years ago, according to Coleman. The opportunity allows the city to buy at-risk homes in a flood plain for owners continually struggling with water damage.

The city has applied for some $830,000 to buy prone homes.
