FEMA will open a recovery center for victims of last week’s tornado Wednesday at Hyder Burks Pavilion on Gainesboro Grade.
If you’ve not yet registered with FEMA, Public Affairs Specialist Cheria Brown says one-on-one assistance could be a help.
“You’ll be able to register for assistance one-on-one with an applicant service specialist,” Brown said. “They’ll be able to take your information. Tell them everything that happened, all of the resources you’ve lost.”
The Hyder Burks Recovery Center will be open 9am-6pm seven days a week. The center will be open til 7pm on Thursday. You can also call 1-800 621-FEMA to register, download the FEMA app or register online at disasterassistance.gov. FEMA requires registration before you become eligible for federal aid.
“You’ll get a registration number that will follow you throughout your application period,” Brown said. “Once you file your registration with FEMA, within five-to-ten business days, an inspector will call and schedule an appointment to come out and view the damaged property.
For homes not completely destroyed, FEMA team members will canvass the highway 70 corridor in the coming days providing information to homeowners.
