FEMA Intends To Pay For Disaster

FEMA intends to reimburse several Tennessee counties for damage sustained during the Memorial Day storms.

The agency posted the notice on its website Wednesday.

Putnam County Executive Randy Porter said he knows FEMA intends to pay, but he doesn’t think the county will see the money anytime soon.

“If we use the ice storm as an example, when we had that in February of 2015, we actually didn’t see our money til later in the summer of 2016. Year plus before you start seeing any of the money,” Porter said.

Putnam County is one of several counties statewide to receive a disaster declaration following the storms. The declaration will cover governmental expenses, including equipment and overtime pay.
