TDOT said it will take at least another two years to get a traffic signal at the I-40/Highway 111 interchange. Federal officials say it will take even longer.
Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton calls the intersection dangerous and is looking for ways to speed up the process.
“Reached out to Diane Black’s office and asked if they could help us, see if it could be expedited,” Shelton said.
However the Federal Highways Administration says it will be 2021 before they can put a light there.
“Certainly we’re going to work and try to not let it be that long, we’ve reached out to state Rep. (Ryan) Williams and state Senator (Paul) Bailey and asked for their help on this as well,” Shelton said.
Officials agree a signal is needed at the interchange. Multiple accidents happen there each year.
