The Tennessee Tech women’s golf team wrapped up its fall season with progress.
The Golden Eagles finished sixth at the Mercer event last week, the best finish of five events the team took part in. Sophomore Lexus Julian said it is nice to see the team steadily improve.
“I feel like it’s pretty encouraging to just see that we can gradually get a little bit better as a whole.” Julian said. “Not just myself, like we can all build from tournament to tournament and get a little bit better each week. I think that’s a very positive note going into the spring to see how well we can improve.”
This fall Julian broke the Tech 54-hole scoring record when she shot a 1-under 215 at Hot Springs, Arkansas. Julian said that the start of the season she struggled to string together consecutive solid rounds, so the record breaking 15th place finish was a turning point.
“It was very nice to be able to see at Little Rock’s tournament that I could finally put together three rounds,” Julian said. “I was not expecting to break the record, but it was nice to show myself that I can do that.”
Julian also broke her own personal best round by shooting a three-under 69 at the Diamante Intercollegiate. She said ending on two more than solid tournaments have her excited for the spring.
“There’s a lot of positives for me and the team as a whole going into the spring,” Julian said. “I think that we’re all going to put in the work this off-season and I’m pretty excited to see how we can do in conference play.”
Julian said that while she is satisfied with where her game stands, she wants to improve her ability to knock in deep, challenging putts.
The Golden Eagles and Julian have four months to get prepared for their first spring tournament on March 3rd in Huntsville, Alabama.
