Fairfield Glade Police Chief Discharges Firearm During Family Dispute, Brother Arrested

The Fairfield Glade Police Chief discharged a firearm Monday night during a family dispute.

Officials said the brother of Chief Mike Williams, Brandon Williams, is now charged with evading arrest and resisting arrest.

According to Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox, the incident happened on Deep Draw Road and Highway 70 East. Cox said  the dispute resulted in Chief Mike Williams discharging a firearm and Brandon Williams fleeing the scene.

TBI spokesman Josh Devine said preliminary information indicates the chief’s brother reportedly exited his vehicle and approached the chief in an agitated and threatening manner, at which time the chief fired his service weapon, striking the right front fender of his brother’s vehicle, near where Brandon was standing.

Cox said Crossville Police arrested Brandon Williams at Interstate 40 and Genesis Road after a brief pursuit. He’s being held at the Cumberland County Jail under $11,000 bond.

No injuries occurred during the family dispute or brief police chase.

Cox said the TBI has taken over the investigation and findings will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office.
