Fairfield Glade Hosting TN Womens Open

Stonehenge Golf Course in Fairfield Glade hosting the state’s best amateur and professional golfers at the Tennessee Women’s Open Championship through Saturday.

One of the longest running women’s open in the country, the Tennessee Women’s Open Championship returns to Cumberland County for the 16th straight year. Tennessee Golf Association Director of Marketing and Communications Josh Shelton said more than 110 golfers will participate.

“What really makes it special is the community around it,” Shelton said. “Fairfield Glade has been a wonderful host since 2009. And they’ve really stepped up this year as one of the title sponsors for the event. They love the event, we love coming there, they love having us and it’s just a great event all around.”

Shelton said the field the biggest since 2019. Fairfield Glade Director of Golf Jeff Houston said hosting the tournament is a chance to display the course, community and make connections with those outside the area.

“It just helps bring people into the community that might not otherwise know us,” Houston said. “It really showcases the golf courses that we have and also showcases the community aspect. Where we really get behind our events and welcome the participants and their families into the community and really just try to be a great host while they are here.”

Part of welcoming those coming into the community are the Fairfield Glade families that are opening up their homes to the golfers and their families. Houston said they have 10-12 families that are hosting this year.

Houston said his superintendent, Sean VanHoose, are making sure the course is at its peak condition for next week’s tournament.

“We always try to keep our golf courses in great condition,” Houston said. “Now when you start going into tournament week, you start fine tuning details, you know, bunker edges, green speeds things like that to where you really don’t want anything out of place. So, it is a lot of work for the superintendents and their staffs.”
