Fair Board To Host Carnival After Feedback

The Fentress County Fair Board will host a carnival after local residents complained about the cancellation of this year’s fair.

“We have a group of people here begging us to do something for our community to have some entertainment and things to get out and do,” Fentress County Fair Board Treasurer Cindy Smith said. “We are a small county, and there is not a huge amount of stuff to do. A lot of stuff has been cancelled.”

Smith said the wait for rides will be increased due to sanitizing. To balance the wait, the board made the gate admission free.

“That is something people may have to take into consideration,” Smith said. “You can come, but it may take a little longer. But you can come every night if you need to. It is one of those situations that we hope it will go well and please our community.”

The carnival will take place July 14th through the 18th, opening at 6 pm nightly at the Fentress County Fairgrounds. Ride bracelets will cost $15.00 weekdays and $20.00 on the weekend.

“I will say I have received less negative calls about bringing the carnival in then when we cancelled the fair,” Smith said. “From what I am seeing from social media, people seemed to be pleased with the decision.”

James Gang Amusement Carnival Company will bring 20 rides including the only Y-Factor ride in Tennessee. Carnival treats will also be available. Smith said the board does not take COVID lightly, and social distancing will be practiced.
