Another step has been taken toward a stand-alone Fentress County Roane State Campus.
The Jamestown City Council Monday approved to extend the city’s sewer lines once plans become concrete. County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the next step is to present the potential project to the state.
“If we present something, we don’t want them to be in question what we might be able to do,” Johnson said. “We want them to know that this is what Fentress County, the City of Jamestown, our…districts and all will be able to do for the adults. And also we of Fentress County [want] to further their education.”
Johnson said he hopes for a confirmed plan by next year. He said the potential project has the support of the community, aldermen, and state legislatures behind it.
The county bought the property the campus could be located in 2018 for another project. Johnson said it is located over 100 yards south of the Jamestown City limits.
“We’re there, we get closer each time that we do something, and it’s just like a ‘wait and see’ sometimes,” Johnson said. “But we’re more than gracious to the city for taking upon themselves that they will extend the sewer to this location, that everything goes good for it.”
If plans are accepted, information about the integrity of the property’s ground will be collected for potential development.
