Two former employees of Jamestown Regional Medical Center have filed a class-action lawsuit against the hospital.
Joshua Slaughter and Karen Bilbrey Cooper are suing JRMC and its owner, Rennova Health Systems, for not notifying employees properly of the hospital’s closure.
The lawsuit states employees were not notified of the hospital’s closure until the day-of on June 13. Tennessee’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act) requires employers to give at least 60 days advance written notice of a mass layoff or closure.
The plaintiffs are requesting Rennova reimburse terminated employees for back pay, lost benefits, and any medical expenses incurred during the closure.
Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) announced late last month it would not reimburse JRMC through its program effective June 12.
The Tennessee Department of Labor’s Rapid Response Team visited Jamestown Friday to assist employees affected by the closure.
