Election officials report that turnout for Thursday’s election has remained steady throughout the day.
Putnam County Administrator of Elections Michele Honeycutt said that turnout has been slower in some of the smaller precincts.
“It’s been pretty steady, especially at the big ones,” Honeycutt said. “Now some of the little ones, it’s slower. It’s pretty steady, but I don’t have any numbers.”
Jackson County Election Commission Administrator Clay Thaxton said he believed turnout will be up from usual in the county.
“Everybody’s been really cooperative,” Thaxton said. “The poll workers are wearing protective equipment and all that good stuff.”
Craig Story, Overton County’s Administrator of Elections, said he believed turnout was down a little over previous elections. He said the election was also running smoothly there.
Honeycutt said Putnam County had received 1,074 absentee ballots at her last county. In addition, 5,143 people voted early.
