Voter turnout for election day has started off strong throughout the Upper Cumberland.
White County Election Administrator Sherry Anderson said they have been consistently busy since voting began. Anderson said everything is going as well as they were hoping for going into the day.
“I expect it to stay steady all day,” Anderson said. “We do expect some little mini surges here and there. Usually around lunchtime there’s a surge. Usually when people are getting off work in the afternoon there’s another surge ’cause they’re getting off work and coming in to vote. But I do expect it to be a busy day today.”
Fentress Election Administrator Joey Williams said they are on track to break their election day turnout record of 2,368 voters from the 2020 election. Williams said they expected this surge because of the spike in early voting they saw in the past month.
“A lot of preparation’s went into this,” Williams said. “And we’ve, it’s got good election folks and they’re getting people in and out.”
Cumberland Deputy Registrar Whitney Lowe said their precincts are reporting a steady stream of voters across the county as they had expected. Lowe said their citizens have been eager to vote, with some locations seeing lines start to form as early as 6:30am before polls opened at 8:00am.
Pickett Election Administrator Tim Clark said things are going well, with their numbers looking very similar to those seen on election day in 2020 so far.
Van Buren Election Administrator Wayne Simons said their turnout has been steady as well.
