EF-0 Tornado Hits Putnam County Friday Afternoon

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in Putnam County Friday afternoon.

Meteorologist Brittney Whitehead said the decision came after coordination with Putnam County EMA. The 75-yard wide tornado struck around 1:30pm Friday.

According to the weather service, the tornado touched down near South Willow Avenue and Winston Drive. It continued east impacting Watauga Drive. The storm appeared to cross Highway 111, lifting near Falling Water Road and Buck Mountain Road.

The nine-mile path caused tree damage. Winds were generally in the range of 85mph.

Damage reported in both Putnam and Overton County. No injuries reported.
