The owners of Echo Valley Pool in Cookeville hope to reopen the popular swimming destination this summer.
Operations Manager Lisa Lovell said reopening the pool would mean a lot to the community.
“We’re very excited about the possibility of reopening and it’s our intention to be open by the time Putnam County Schools get out for summer,” Lovell said. “That will mean the community and the people who have grown accustomed over the last 80 years to enjoying Echo Valley Pool will be able to come back and enjoy using the pool.”
The pool originally closed last June after 88 years when a pipe burst and affected their filtration system. Repairs would have cost nearly $20,000 to repair at the time.
Lovell said since then, the pool’s board of directors have found a plumbing consultant to help fix the issue.
“We sought some bids and secured some backing to hire a plumbing consultant company and a plumber to do the repairs, which are now underway,” Lovell said. ” It’s our hope that the plumbing repairs work, but we won’t know until they’re finished working and we see if what they did fixes the problem.”
Lovell anticipates repair work to be finished by April 20. A decision on whether the pool will officially reopen or not will be made at that time.
Lovell said updates will be shared on the Echo Valley Pool Facebook page regarding the repairs.
