East 10th Street Commercial Development Granted Extension

Developers have until next year to submit final plans for the planned commercial development on East 10th Street.

Cookeville Interim Planning Director John Ward said the city received a request to extend the time period from July 31st.

“Mr. Justin Cumby submitted the request for a six month extension of the approval of the preliminary PCD plan,” Ward said. “He has informed the planning department that road design engineering for required improvements to East 10th Street are still underway. Approval of the request would extend the time period for the submittal of the final PCD plan to January 31st 2020.”

All but one Cookeville Planning Commissioner voted to grant the extension Monday. City Council will vote on the recommendation later this summer.

“The developers would be eligible to apply for an additional extension through July 31st 2020,” Ward said.

Developers plan to convert the 14-acre property into a retail shopping center with a new grocery store. The required road expansion will add two lanes to East 10th Street plus a center turning lane into the proposed development site.

The Cookeville Planning Commission approved a planned commercial development zoning for the property in November, 2018. Cookeville City Council approved the zoning in early 2019.
