The Upper Cumberland’s favorite bald eagle couple, Obey and River, have laid three new eggs.
Darlene Neeley manages the Dale Hollow Lake Eagle Cam Facebook and has followed the birds since 2017. Neely said River has historically laid three eggs each winter over that time.
“They hatch in about 35-days and then they won’t fledge until like May,” Neely said. “Only two usually survive. The deal is that when eagles lay eggs the first one they hope will hatch and the second and third ones are laid for assurance.”
Neely said after hatching, the eaglets will remain in the nest for a few months as it grows its first feathers and eventually flies away. You can view the eagle family’s journey live by visiting daleholloweaglecam.net.
Neely said Obey and River are roughly 20-years-old and have raised at least 20 eaglets over that time.
