Dry and windy weather has led state officials to issue a red-flag warning over concerns about outdoor burning.
Baxter Fire Chief Matthew White said it is unusually dry, windy, and warmer than normal. He said they recommend avoiding any kind of outdoor burn until conditions improve.
“te biggest danger is a small fire becoming a larger fire and not being able to control it,” White said. “Of course some of that is related to geographically and topographical conditions where it might happen.”
White said to help prevent any fires from getting out of control, they also ask homeowners to keep their lawns cut down and loose debris picked up. He said the less material there is to burn, the easier it will be to contain the fire should one occur.
White said they hope the forecasted weekend rains will remove the need for a red flag warning.
