White County Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger received a 3.12 out of four on the school board’s yearly evaluation.
School Board members answered over 50 questions on a wide range of topics such as test scores and graduation rates. Before the board approved the evaluation Thursday, Board Chair Bob Young said he would like the parameters reviewed.
“I don’t think that the evaluation, the questions that we evaluate on,” Young said. “I don’t think those are adequate to reflect the work that a Director’s report this district should be measured on.”
Member Dewayne Howard said he agreed and would like to explore changing some topics or reviewing the wording. He said sometimes it is difficult for him to know exactly how to score Dronebarger if he does not have to opportunity to see his work.
Dronebarger’s lowest score was a 2.89 in the strategic planning category. He said he appreciates the feedback from the board members, both positive and negative.
“I know I work in a position where everybody’s not going to be in agreement and I don’t know who has that luxury,” Dronebarger said. “But I am motivated by students every day. My decisions are based on students. Right or wrong, students first. And sometimes that makes big people upset and I understand that. But right or wrong, that’s my motivation always. Love kids, work hard, and pursue excellence is not just something I say it’s something I really try and live in this job.”
Young said there was one response that had skewed Dronebarger’s score to the lower side.
