Driver Charged With DUI After Interstate 40 Crash

The Tennessee Highway Patrol charged a 45-year-old man from Mexico with DUI following a Wednesday afternoon crash in Putnam County.

The accident happened on Interstate 40 westbound at the 298 mile marker.

Alfredo Banos Nieves of Caol Tetlan, Mexico faces charges of DUI, open container, and no drivers license. THP officials said Nieves passed out behind the wheel causing his 2000 Ford F 250 to strike a tractor trailer.

He was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for treatment.
