Downed Trees, Powerlines In Fentress After Thursday Morning Storms

Fentress County seeing significant widespread damage after early Thursday morning storms.

According to the National Weather Service, approximately 100 trees were downed. EMS Director James Bilbrey said at one point about 3,000 Volunteer Electric customers were without power due to downed powerlines.

“We’d had all the emergency services department out, Sheriff’s Office, Fire, Rescue, EMA,” Bilbrey said. “Everybody’s been working on cutting, getting trees out and things like that.”

Bilbrey said crews are currently working on a 6-inch water line that had burst in downtown Jamestown.

He said many homes and vehicles were damaged by falling trees, but there are no injuries at this time.

As of 11 a.m., Bilbrey said that Ruby Avenue in Jamestown and Highway 127 in Pall Mall are closed. He asked that residents exercise extreme caution if they need to travel due to the amount of debris on roadways. He estimates it will take most of the day to get roadways cleared.
