The Double Springs voting precinct in Putnam County set to move pending a final accessibility survey by the Election Commission.
Chair Phillip Adams said voters will move from Upperman Middle School to Double Springs Church of Christ.
“First of all, it puts it back into the proper district,” Adams said. “The 9th district, so it is closer to the voters. Also being away from the high school, we think there will be less confusion as to where the voting is.”
Adams said the move was not due to Commissioner Dale Moss recently voicing a need to relocate. Adams said it has been in the works for sometime based on feedback from the district. Adams said voters would often times have trouble finding the voting area at Upperman Middle School, which was also outside of the district.
“It’s been a good location as far as voting, but it’s not a good location as of finding it,” Adams said. “Part of that is because it is so close to the high school it is confusing. It’s also in the adjacent district. The reason we did that was we had no building in the Double Spring district that would work.”
Adams said voters should be familiar with the location since it was used as a voting precinct in the past. Adams said voting originally moved to Upperman Middle due to the church being renovated.
Adams said the location should be serviceable in the 2024 elections.
