Double Springs UD Accepting Bids For Master Meter Project

Double Springs Utility District accepting bids for a master meter project to supply the Crossroads housing development.

Board President Lynn McHenry said the utility district is working with Baxter on the project so sewer and water services can remain under the city.

“It’s hard to supply sewer and water separately, so we made an arrangement with the city of Baxter so they could supply the water and know how much is being feed through a master meter to that development and then they can charge appropriate sewer rates,” McHenry said. “That’s to benefit them.”

McHenry said the city would then pay the utility district for the usage measured by the master meter and charge customers based on that.

“That’s technically our service area there where the DR Horton homes are,” McHenry said. “We want to be good neighbors and work out with Baxter because they want to supply the sewer to that area.”

McHenry said the meter would attach to a new 12-inch line that was recently installed along Highway 70 this year. That project started last year through a $1.2 million bond.

“The addition of this 12-inch line that we put in is going to be a benefit hopefully for everybody in the west end of the county that we service,” McHenry said. “Hopefully, we’re going to be able to extend that in the future.”

McHenry said he anticipates the project to come in at several thousand dollars. The deadline for bid submissions is September 8th.
