Dogapalooza Moves To Virtual Format

Cookeville’s Dogapalooza will take place this year, just a little differently.

Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the 10th annual event will move to social media.

“We tried to do something a little bit differently we didn’t just want to cancel everything and forget about it. We wanted to be able to give pet lovers and owners an opportunity to recognize their pets and do something unique and special.”

Dog owners can submit a photo of their pet to the Leisure Services Facebook with a description why they’ve been special during quarantine. For the Kid’s Dog Show, children can post photos and videos of their dog doing their best trick.

Other competitions like the pet/owner lookalike contest will also be available. Woods said the public can vote their favorite submissions on Facebook.

“There are prizes for Top Dog and prizes for the Dog Show as well,” Woods said. “They’re prize packages. You have to read up, go to our Facebook page and our website and read up and find out more.”

Top Dog submissions begin May 1 through May 5 at 1 p.m. Leisure services will select the top ten and let Facebook followers choose their Top Dog pick by May 8.

The Kid’s Dog Show submissions begin May 8 through May 15. Any child aged 16 and under can participate.
